Suminagashi

In-person
Sunday, July 13
Noon to 3:00 p.m.

Instructor: Rachel Stickney

Suminagashi, ‘floating ink’ in Japanese, is the first known marbling technique, with the earliest examples dating back to the 12th century. This style of paper marbling uses very few tools and materials, with beautiful results easily achieved by people of all ages. Using paintbrushes, inks are applied to the surface of water where they float freely and swirl around each other. The paper is then gently placed atop the water and peeled back, revealing a marbled print. Each student will leave this class with a stack of marbled papers that can be used for books, boxes, cards, wrapping paper, or other handmade projects. This class is a student favorite, so sign up early to get your spot!
