Make Your Own Custom Bookcloth – Two Ways

Bookcloth is superior to paper for book covers and boxes for durability, but available colors and patterns are limited. Learn how to make your own bookcloth with favorite fabric pieces, and your possibilities are unlimited! Students will make bookcloth for custom projects using two different methods in this online class.

 

Materials to gather:

Iron + Ironing Board

Cotton Fabric of Your Choice–should be roughly 12” x 18” or smaller

Fabric Scissors or Rotary Cutter (whichever you prefer)

Ruler

Craft Knife

Any additional fabric you want to try!

 

Method 1 Supplies:

Wheat Paste (instructor will supply this recipe and directions in advance)

2 stiff, wide brushes

Large piece of scrap cardboard (larger than fabric piece)

Sumi or Kozo paper roughly 12” x 18”

Butcher paper or newspapers to protect the work surface

 

Method 2 Supplies:

Cotton Interfacing

Teens/Adult All Levels
