This project uses a wide variety of techniques and materials to alter or embellish the pages of vintage books to create a unique piece of art. We will create papers to incorporate into each book using solvents on National Geographic pages to produce a marbled effect, staining tissue paper, using rubber stamps and other mark-making tools, applying Gesso, paints, folding, cutting, collaging, journaling, and hand drawing, if desired. The possibilities are endless with this project, as students will be encouraged to pick a theme and carry out the ideas of their particular interests.
Vintage books will be available for a small fee (optional), or students can bring their own book. (Friends of the Library and KZoo Books have a wide variety of used books.)
