Collagraphs are beautiful, often experimental prints made by collaging textured items onto a mat board or similar surface, then sealing it and applying inks to print it onto paper. Materials such as textiles, netted bags, corrugated cardboard, bubble wrap, string or other fibers, cut card, tape, leaves, and grass, create textures that hold or repel ink. The collagraph plate can then be intaglio-inked or treated as a relief print and inked with a roller, paintbrush, or some combination thereof, allowing for a great range of printing options.
In this workshop, we will cover the basics of creating and printing a collagraph plate, including several printing methods. Participants will leave with at least one finished plate and one or more prints from that plate.
Materials are included, although participants are encouraged to bring in any textured materials they are interested in: fabric, textured papers, or anything flat, textured, and 1/8" or less.
