KBAC Gallery
Reception Friday, November 11, 5:30-7:00
Please join us in the gallery Friday, November 11, 5:30-7:00, for a special fundraising event. We will be exhibiting a large variety of artwork by KBAC co-founder Paul Robbert, an influential and beloved West Michigan artist and teacher. Our goal is to find good homes for these wonderful works of art, so Rosamond Robbert has offered to give a work to anyone who donates any amount to the KBAC. Come to our event to celebrate Paul and his contribution to the KBAC, find something you like, make any donation of your choice, and courtesy of Ros you can take that piece home for your wall!
Paul Robbert served on the faculty of Western Michigan University for more than forty years, setting up the printmaking program and establishing a papermaking curriculum. He was an important trailblazer in the development of hand papermaking in the United States. One of the unique aspects of Robbert’s art was that he made his own paper mill and created new processes to form sheets. Robbert found creative ways to retrofit ordinary found objects into new equipment for making paper. The papermaking area at the KBAC is dedicated to him, containing much equipment he built and used himself. We are honored that his knowledge and talent continue to benefit the organization that he helped to establish.
About his work Robbert said:
The artist in each one of us potentially “awakens” elusive thoughts and ideas beyond the pale of day-to-day awareness. . . A true reality can only come to fruition through art that transcends the everyday. In this way, art makes us aware of thoughts and ideas that otherwise remain asleep, left behind and never realized.
