The map below was provided for the week of September 8.

There will be no parking on Kalamazoo Ave during construction. Park in the gravel lot to the east of the KBAC or the parking garage on the corner of Kalamazoo Ave and Rose, entrance on Eleanor St by the Kalamazoo Valley Museum.

When walking to the KBAC from the Metro station or downtown, walk on the south side of Kalamazoo Avenue and cross at Church St to get to the KBAC. Access to our front door is limited. If you arrive and the sidewalk is closed please use our back entrance.

The intersection of Park and Kalamazoo will be closed to pedestrians, and they should take Church Street instead.

September 15–18/19 – Concrete and Sidewalk Work

• Crews will install curb and gutter and sidewalks along the north side of Kalamazoo Avenue between Park and Rose streets.

• Work will be completed in phases to maintain access to buildings along the corridor.

• Access to the Park Trades Center and County facilities will remain available, although the specific access points may change as crews move through the area.

• Work will affect areas around Park, Church and Rose streets. Burdick Street will remain open.

• Pedestrian routes through the construction area may change.

Tuesday, September 15 – Church Street Reopens

• Church Street is planned to reopen Tuesday following completion of Consumers Energy's underground electrical work and paving

Looking Ahead

Crews are approaching another major milestone as work on the north side of Kalamazoo Avenue moves toward completion. Following the upcoming concrete work, roadway paving is tentatively expected around September 19 or shortly afterward.

Following the concrete work, Consumers Energy will also install bases and boxes for future street-lighting infrastructure between the curb and sidewalk. Communications and signal infrastructure work is also underway as the project prepares for later phases of construction.

Once work on the north side is sufficiently complete, traffic will shift to the opposite side of Kalamazoo Avenue so construction can continue. We'll share more detailed information about the new traffic pattern and access routes before the shift takes place.

Traffic and access

Throughout construction, one lane of Kalamazoo Avenue will remain open, although traffic patterns will shift as work progresses.

If you're visiting a business or destination within the construction zone, access will remain available throughout construction. Most downtown destinations can be reached from Rose Street, where parking and access to businesses will continue to be maintained.
